For Diplomatic ideas, I think Influence is a pretty strong group, as it speeds up claims, decreases the power needed to diplo-annex, and reduces the effect of aggressive expansion.
I could work my way north can switch my capital to a Pomeranian (my favorite culture, tied with Hessian (because I am Hessian)) and then switch to Prussia, the order being Tuscany -> Italy -> Prussia, then maybe Holy Roman Empire. I used to think the decision to form Tuscany made you a kingdom too, but that's not true.

Prussian and French ideas are probably the best in the game, neck-and-neck for 1st and 2nd. Not saying you should, just pointing out an option (I had a pretty nice play-through doing this). Even the generic Italian ideas are probably better than Tuscan, that +0.5 RT/year is ridiculous. Early on, Tuscan ideas are useful for keeping ahead in tech, but bythe time you have the chance to form Italy, chances are you're at the point where Italian ideas would be better for you.

As a nation develops technologically, it unlocks the ability to gain additional idea groups.Investing into a full idea group can take a long time and cost several decades worth of power. also if you are going for hre then should go tuscany and get the monarchy for the RMs and what not. As Tuscany that would be doable (in a normal Brandenburg start Diplo is too important and sets you back a few years). Press J to jump to the feed.
