Charming. I know that the author in real life HATED the Mary Poppins film and her dealings with Walt Disney, so I want to know if they stuck by that in a way or completely Disney-ed it by having her see the compassion and love and loving Disney and his movie. I don't pretend to know or care much about PL Travers (I haven't even read her books) and I know even less about Walt Disney and his life, but the more I think about it, the more uncomfortable I feel about this film. Hey, I enjoyed your review! Just got back from it, thought it was a really nice and charming movie. I know PL Travers hated her dealings with Disney and hated the Mary Poppins film, but even going only by her portrayal in Saving Mr. Banks, it seems pretty obvious that she would have loathed this film, its sentimentality, and maybe even how it used her childhood. Out of ALL the standout performances in the film, the one that most took me by surprise was Paul Giamatti.
