I’d rather do 1% of damage consistently then deal 100k damage that appears to have zero effect. The Gear 2.0 system was a much-needed change for Divison 2, not only has it trimmed down the excessive loot to more manageable levels, but it has made that loot more meaningful, a simplified stat system, the ability to extract and store stats and an upgraded modification system are all perfectly tied together with an easy to understand UI, that allows you to see the components of your build quickly. Solo players beware though; exploration is not easy, and running into enemies on the streets is very common.
Massive Entertainment managed to improve on core gameplay aspects such as the PVE and looting, with the game feeling more fleshed out than its previous counterpart. Even base enemies now have an extra HP bar, making this even worse. One aspect that counteracts the time investment in developing builds and more advanced gear is the “normalization” of said aspects in PVP – design to balance it out – that removes the gap between gear sets entirely, reducing the benefit of investing time and resources in an optimized build. If none of that works, they spawn behind you through a door or manhole and flank you that way. Still, it is obvious what they expect you to do. Its made me excited to farm gear again, as now more than ever my perfect build is attainable, and while getting that build will take effort, it removes some of the RNG uncertainty from gearing up. The upgraded textures and models look great, and I love the chance to explore New York and find out what has happened while I was away. However, I feel both Destiny 2 and The Division 2 are skating on thin ice with this format, in the recent Destiny 2 producers letter they conceded the battle pass system as it is, was not working, it ties up developer resources in content that 2-3 months from now won’t be available, compare that to games like World of Warcraft, where a new player can enjoy almost all content created since its launch in 2004!
